This postcard is inspired by Jalaluddin Rumi, a Sufi scholar in Konya, Turkey. In 1244, Rumi met Shams of Tabrizi, who was a Persian poet and spiritual instructor of Rumi. There is a poem for the moment when Rumi met Shams for the first time. Rumi was amazed with Shams' personality and his knowledge. The postcard is a part of the poem in Farsi which we read right to left. The phrase that I chose from the poem is the part that has been repeated couple of times; Rumi talked to Shams and he wondered who is he with all this knowledge about life. The phrase says, “کیستی تو؟” (Keestee To?) that means “Who are you?”.

In this design, I focused on repetition and minimalism. I wanted to keep the simplicity of the design as I’m transferring the sound into design.

The last sentence is the end of the poem when Rumi asked himself that “Who am I? What am I?

Before Tomorrow is a movie by Marie-Hélène Cousineau. It is about two inuits tribes who meet each other and they face some survival difficulties. In this project we had to design a poster for the movie by using the skills we have learned from the Illustrator workshops. The focus in this project is on the design process.

This poster is inspired by an article “Grid And Design Philosophy” by Josef Müller-BrockMann from a book “Graphic and Design Theory”. The article talks about the grid and system and the importance of using them in our work. This poster follows modernism with the use of forms and grid.
